With so much hype, misunderstanding, and colloquial nomenclature attached to Mercury Retrograde, I wanted to take a moment and provide a more nuanced approach as to how Mercury Retrogrades can actually serve a higher purpose (if you so choose.)
Here are three easy ways to work with Mercury Retrogrades so these transits can continually bless you and serve you in great favour.
1) Slow Down. When you give yourself the time and space to Be, Think, Examine, Double Check, to be Curious - or simply move slower just cause - you will elicit new ways of Being, Acting, and Performing. If something is not working "as fast" as you want, perhaps there is a reason why. Perhaps it is to work on your communication skills. Perhaps you are spending too much time on your tech devices anyway. Perhaps there is a better way to do something and "the glitch," or delay, is actually in your current path to help you. Sometimes it is as simple as walking away from a situation and coming back to it a day or two later to receive the instant result you were looking for all along.
2) Enjoy the process of going back somewhere/to someone. If you had the opportunity to go back to your favourite city and eat at your favourite restaurant, you would likely rejoice and have gratitude for this experience. With all retrogrades, it's an opportunity to go back and re-do and refine certain parts of our life to get a far better result. This can be renegotiating a salary to finding a better deal on an item you constantly spend money on. Remember, Mercury rules over Commerce so the ability to save money during this time gets amplified. With regard to Communication & Relationships, you can break patterns that no longer serve you to engage more authentically and truthfully. Ex. Instead of people pleasing you state what you want from those closest to you during a Mercury Rx to get a different experience moving forward. If you find yourself in a similar, frustrating spending/communication pattern during Mercury Rx, ask yourself if there is a different option that can allow for an easier experience moving forward.
3) Prioritize your Mental Health. A two-for-one type activity I always like to engage in during Mercury Retrogrades is strengthening my Mental Health. We have all experienced Extreme Stress and/or Anxiety, Depression, Worry, Grief - or sometimes all of the above - at some point in our life. When our mental health facilities are strong, we are able to copy with these challenging energies that much easier. Thus, if you have fallen off your Mental (and even Spiritual) practices, now would be a fantastic time to revisit them to give yourself the tools to move faster (and easier) once this Retrograde is over. A very easy way to do this is reduce screen time - can you instead read a book instead of reading from an electronic device? Can you go for a walk with a loved one instead of watching a 30-minute show? How can we calm ourselves, routinely, instead of stimulate?
If someone told you that every three-four months you got to take a 3.5 week break to slow down, and focus on your mental and financial blessings to exponentially make you life easier afterwards you would likely be curious and wish to take advantage of this time. This gets to be Mercury Retrogrades. Just like how a physical bootcamp that can be challenging in the moment but afterwards leads to muscular growth, a Mercury Retrograde can give you the tools to think, spend, and communicate in superior ways moving forward.
Every single Mercury Retrograde, ask yourself, "How can I slow down to speed up? Is there someone or something I can go back to in order to derive a more pleasurable result? And, how can I support my mind and mental facilities to make my life easier?"
